Second hand maybe. Brand new no. Not yet anyway. You used to be able to get a Dacia Duster for that money but not anymore.

Maybe if the Dacia Spring ever comes here OK but otherwise your better looking at something like a Mitsubishi Outlander secondhand.

Yeah for sure second hand sorry should have said not brand new. So i would get a Hybrid second for around 15k or would I be better to added a bit more money to get something good ?

Is it worth getting a second hand Hybrid?

You can get a myriad of Toyota hybrids second hand for that money. Well worth it IMHO as they are very reliable.

Check out the usual websites for cars and you will have a world of choice. All depends on what you want.

Any other suggestions on good reliable hybrid cars? hoping to save on fuel by getting hybrid, I want something stylish fast& comfortable on motorway trips

Hybrids are over rated, if you want to save fuel get a diesel, there is also a knack to get the best fuel consumption from hybrids at best they only match diesels for a premium price.

Stylish, fast and comfortable may not be words used to describe quite a lot of hybrids. Most of the ones in those categories could be BMW or Mercedes models but I doubt you will get one for the 15k number you are talking about.

Hybrid cars will certainly not light the world on fire but you could look at some of the Lexus models (the IS300H particularly) that could possibly be got for your budget. They "could" be described as stylish and comfortable but fast is a subjective term and on the motorway, as long as you can keep up with traffic, it doesn't have much effect. Without knowing what you want, beyond the 3 buzz words, it is very hard to recommend anything.

Get yourself into Carzone, Donedeal, Auto Trader and all those websites and see what is out there for your budget and taste in Hybrid cars. If you already have a diesel, you may not save a lot on fuel but to give you an idea; I got a lifetime average of over 57MPG from my Toyota hybrid before trading it in last year. That included city driving and quite a bit of motorway travel between Dublin and Galway for the 8 years I owned it.

Nice what year was the Toyota hybrid? How much more would I need for a BMW or Mercedes? Alot of private sales are asking way to much for vehicle that's not even worth it.

It was a 2012 model I had but the newer ones are more fuel efficient again. I loved the car, it was quiet, comfortable and perfect for what my family needed at the time. I traded it in against a plug in hybrid last year only because I felt like a change, otherwise I would still have it.

From looking at Carzone, you can find BMW models starting at about €20k. Mercedes start at about the same money but some of them in there have very high mileage.

Again, this is all down to your own preference. You will need to do some of the leg work yourself to find a suitable vehicle as taste is very subjective and you will have a lot of different opinions here as to what you should get.

Im currently driving a hybrid - Lexus GS300h. Previous car was a 2L diesel Passat with DSG gearbox. I would say the Lexus is definitely no more economical on fuel but tax is €190 and the cost of servicing/maintenance is also less. The car has cost me nothing apart from routine servicing, tyres etc.

The Lexus also has a far better degree of comfort and a nice bit of poke when necessary. I'm sure I could knock better economy out of it if I drove it like recommended for a hybrid😝

My car is now approaching 200,000km and I recently considered changing. Car is in great nick, drives very tight and hasnt been abused in any way. Spoke to a buddy who is in car sales - he is very familiar with my car and he told me I would be mad to change now for what I might get on trade (15-18k) and cost to change.

Would only be changing because I am bored with the car so my new plan now is to hold on to it for another 2 years or so and go electric once the charging network and availability of cars has improved.

When I can get a hybrid/electric A6 or A7 for the same money as I paid for the last few (15-20k) that offers at least half the same range (I don't have a private driveway to charge it on), power, and comfort I'll consider it.

Until then I'll stick with my big polluting dirty 3 litre diesel 😁

Well they may increase there budget then or buy an old Land Rover or Mitsubish Pajero or Toyota Land Cruiser then if that us what they really want.

How about a Skoda Octavia 4x4 or Scout if they can find any?

    Live long and Prosper

    Peace and long life.
