Travel to Toronto

    Hi All,

We are planning to visit Toronto in May/June. Hopefully, there won't be any covid restrictions at that stage.

    1. I notice Aer Lingus seems to be the cheapest as we need checked in luggage, and I think toddlers under 2 years of age have free air tickets. But do they get their own seat or sit on their parent's lap?

Also, if someone got the promo code for Aer Lingus, please share it with me.

Or if cheaper flying options available?

    2. Secondly, we are looking for accommodation where a kitchen (at least fridge and microwave) is available. Any recommendations, please?

    3. And lastly, we are considering renting a car as it's difficult to rely on public transport with a toddler. Will Irish driving license be enough? Any thoughts on transportation?

    Thanks so much!

Can't help with first two q's but on no. 3 we rented a car a couple of years ago in Toronto on Irish licences absolutely no problem. Can't advise on transport around Toronto as we were based outside it so a car was essential for us.

It very much depends on where you want to get to.

Toronto itself has a reasonable public transport system. Train from airport to downtown, and when downtown the combination of bus and subway will get you reasonably close to wherever. For example, if you want to gorge yourself, it's a short waddle from Greektown restaurants to the local subway line.

If you're going out of town, regional rail isn't bad. For example, I often go to Oshawa, which is a case of taking the train from downtown Toronto for 45 minutes along the east Coast line, then I get a cab or uber around Oshawa itself.

Obviously, though, nothing meets the flexibility of a car, so it depends very much on where you're spending your time.

    That's helpful.

Given its a family trip, I believe car rental would be required for ease.

Use skyscanner to research other potential cheaper flight options- only book direct with airline though.

Yes, that's what I am trying. Will wait another week before booking. Thanks 😊

I'd definitely be looking at booking seats for the toddlers. Try putting a chair against a wall and sitting in it for 8.5 hrs then add a toddler.

From a safety point of view, it would be better for the kids to have their own seats, plus how will you manage with feeding, eating, loo runs etc if they are sitting on your lap?
