Weak toilet flush

Had a few guests over at Christmas, toilet saw a ton of use in a few days and the flush hasn't been working right since then. It flushes fine every 4-5 hours if you leave it alone but if you try again too soon, it doesn't work at all and you have to "pump" it until enough water makes it through. Looking inside the tank, I don't see any difference between the times when it works and the times when it doesn't. Everything that should be moving seems to be and a bit of water goes out but not enough to flush. Is it something I've a chance to fix myself? Or more likely to be in the syphon?

Picture of what it looks like when it's not working:

Unscrew the blue yolk and replace the black rubber diaphragm washer. Make sure you get the right type.

Also don't forget to turn off the water.

I'd say it's more likely that the flapper valve in the siphon is holed or worn out. Cheap to replace but a painful job on that cistern set up as it has to be removed completely to access the siphon.

There are a couple of blue things on the picture but I assume it's about the big blue one in the middle (syphon?) and not the one connected to the inlet valve, heh, since that part seems to work! I'll give it a shot at the weekend. Thanks very much for the advice and for the terminology so I can actually look things up!

Ah, I've seen that done on another toilet that needed the whole syphon replaced... The repair job looked beyond my current skills though, darn. Thanks for the tip! I'll poke around a bit and see.
