Travel to Rome with 16 y.o. son

    Hi

Apologies if this has already been addressed elsewhere, but can't find much info for my situation.

My son who will be 16 on April 18th had covid in early January, all fine and recovered with no major issues, doubly vaxxed with Pfizer.

I'm pretty sure he cannot get the booster for at least 3 months after recovery. We are due to travel to Rome on 19th April.

I know we have to do the passenger locator forms and I think this requires uploading digital certs. But will his double vax be enough to get him through would anyone know? My boss was saying today that Italy is one of the stricter countries for entry in Europe and to be very careful about what is required. Or should we try and get him booster vaxxed in early April and hope to get the digital cert in time?

Kinda bad timing for us, this was booked months ago and then he picked up covid in January 😫

Any advice would be greatly appreciated thanks.

My understanding was that people with officially registered Covid diagnoses could apply through the HSE website for a recovery cert which can be used until enough time has elapsed until the third shot can be administered.

Thanks Baybay. I did check that and he can't get a recovery cert as we couldn't get a PCR test through the HSE at the time - absolutely no appointments available even when we tried after midnight a few times.

I'll check DFA site again, and maybe bang off an email also. They do say this -

Entrants to Italy from EU member states are required to produce.

    1. Passenger Locator Form: EU Digital Passenger Locator Form.
    2. COVID-19 ‘green pass’ or EU Digital COVID Certificate based on vaccination or recovery.

    And this -

EU-DCCs based on a primary course of vaccination are only valid for travel if no more than 270 days have passed since the final dose in the primary vaccine series.

No mention of booster, so I am hoping he will be ok if we don't get a chance to get him boostered. I got mine done in December.

Reading what the dfa says I think he may need a pcr test before travelling if not boostered or no recovery certificate available

You can also download the app VerificaC19 to scan & check your DCC, it’s what restaurants, bars, tourist sites are using to allow access
