Buzz from electrical panel in the night (when storage heaters start charging?)

    Hi all,

Apologies for so many questions and thanks for any guidance.

We are experiencing what the title says but we are not sure if it’s normal.

During the morning and evening there are no noises (buzz, clicks, nothing) but, around midnight, we start hearing a buzz coming from the electrical panel inside the house. It is loud enough to be heard from 4 meters away. In the morning, it’s gone.

We don’t change anything that might trigger it (e.g., we don’t turn on some appliance or lights) so we think it might be related to the storage heaters, which charge in the night.

Has anyone experienced something like this? Is it normal?

If it’s a problem, who should we report this to? Our landlord? our energy provider? Or ESB directly?

    Thanks!

It’s the contactor in your distribution board

when it’s energised they do make some noise but if fuse board is on a stud wall the noise tends to resonate

It possibly needs to be replaced

It’s the responsibility of the householder

    contact your landlord
