Aer lingus/british airways baggage

Hi all

I am planning on making the move to Oz in the next few weeks with a stop over in dubai along the way.

The cheapest way flights are working out is to travel to dubai with British Airways via an Aer Lingus flight to Heathrow and then through Qatar Airways on to Australia.

The baggage allowance for Qatar is 30kg and I would like to bring a this amount with me to Dubai however Aer Lingus/British Airways baggage allowances are only 20kg + 23kg respectively.

Does anyone have experience in this regards as to how expensive it is to carry excess baggage with AL/BA?

Adding an additional 23kg bag to the booking would likely be the cheapest way of doing it, it should give the option if booking directly with either airline.

I've considered this but in this case I would probably have to buy myself a new suitcase only to abandon it in Dubai as I'd only have one bag for the Australia leg which feels like a bit of a waste!

Yes that might be the best approach, Qatar might be pricey for the 2nd bag to Australia. I think Aer Lingus would give you an option in Dublin to upgrade the 20/23kg to 30kg bag but cost on the day could be substantial.
