Has any Irish citizen living abroad for many years returned to Ireland to give birth? How did you choose a hospital? Did you receive public, semi-private, or private care? What were the costs (assuming return to Ireland is in the latter stages of the pregnancy (+- 35 weeks) and almost all antenatal visits are done outside of Ireland)?

My friend did it around 10 years ago. She was living in France at the time. Things went really bad between herself and her partner so she decided to come back to Ireland. She was 32 weeks pregnant. All of her family still lives in Ireland so she went public in Galway hospital. Zero cost. She got 2 scans, one at the time she went there for the first time and one at 35 weeks. She brought all her paper work from France as well.
