Very new to bikes and Boards! Did IBT last July and just bought a VFR800.

I've search both boards and google but cannot find the driving test routes (either car or Bike!) for Dundalk from the new Test centre at the Lisdoo.

I'm living in Drogheda and had hoped to do the test in Finglas as knew all the routes but unfortunately motorbike tests have been moved to Mulhuddard. I will do a pre-test or two in Dundalk but want to try and get a handle to practice before any pre-test. Also anyone any idea of waiting period for Dundalk for the bike test.

Absolutely love the bike. Never has been on one before and was a little concerned re power but I’m fairly level headed so not doing anything stupid given la k of experience. I couldn’t get quoted by any of the others so jumped and paid it immediately once got quote

Hi Mark I’m now in the same situation as you above. Did u do the test in Dundalk? What was the route? What did you have to do? How long was the wait for a test?

    cheers

Its a while since I did the test, but the route I was taken on was a bit like this:

1 - Left out of test centre (don't forget to indicate and cancel)

2 - Watch the ramps, make progress up the old newry road.

3 - Continue past the Right Turn for the R132 and onto the dead end. Here's where you'll do the U-Turn and Emergency reduction of speed and parked car avoidance.

4 - Back down and make a left on to the R132. (Progress)

5 - Right at roundabout. Watch your observation and position.

6 - Down the N52 for town. Watch speed limit changes and progress and position.

7- not 100% about this but I think it was left in round Sraid Na Ce then around St Gerards sq then back out at Barrack st. All about observation and speed in here.

8 - Not 100% on this either, but it was straight across, Right at castle road, back to fair green and then back to the old newry road and the test centre.

Maybe someone else can fill in the blanks for the way back. I'm pretty confident I've missed a section.

If you give Eric Dalton a shout for your pretest, he knows the Dundalk route and is as sound as they come. You wont go wrong with him.

Alternatively John Quinlivan is based in Dundalk and knows all the routes. He can be quite busy if your test date is soon.

Hope its of some use to you.

I’d second the recommendation for Eric Dalton. I did my protest with him

1 - Left out of test centre (don't forget to indicate and cancel).

2 - Watch the ramps, if he tells you to turn right, try and keep to the right if the ramp.

3 - Take the Right Turn for the R132 and pull up to do stop on the left when safe to do so, with mirror and indiactor (watch out for entrance on right so as not to be seen to obstruct

4 - off again and take the left remember to stop first, then pull out building up speed and indicating right.

5 - left at the roundabout

6 - right up the dead end. Here's where you'll do the riding at walking pace, U-Turn and Emergency reduction of speed and parked car avoidance.

4 - Back down, passing the test centre again and into the town,

5 - Pass church on right, left and immediate right (be careful with pedestrian crossing).

6 - Went up there and a few turns but cannt remember exactly (not from Dundalk!). Be careful there is one very sharp left turn and there was a parked car around the corner….a very slow 1st gear turn.

7- Back into the town near the adelphi Chinese I think…

8 - Left at the square and up clanbrasil street and a right at Yorke street and immediate left and right down St. Mary’s road (be careful aroud here as I encountered vans parked/double parked, people crossing in the middle of the roads etc..wouldn’t have liked to be doing my test without significant driving experience).

9 - right turn down castle road and left on to mill street. At the end of this leg and middle land, straight across at the lights and then a right st. Joseph’s park and right again half way up. Left at the top ….be careful here as stop sign is back a biit

10 - straight across Garrick street and right again on to sraid na ce.

11- lef at the lights on to the bypass and out towards race course,

12- left on to racecourse road and left again and right intO the test centre.

Maybe someone else can fill in the blanks for the way back. I'm pretty confident I've missed a section.

If you give Eric Dalton a shout for your pretest, he knows the Dundalk route and is as sound as they come. You wont go wrong with him.

i used John Quinlivan for IBT and one pretest (definitely worth doing at least one)…and plenty of practice.

    good luck with the test.

Hi guys, im trying to book my A2 test, i cant find any availability anywhere in the country, as i'm in Drogheda the website automatically picks Navan as my closest and allows getting on a waiting list. I want to pick Dundalk as i'm more familiar with the area, but it wont even allow me to go on a wait list there.

    anyone help with this?

Also regarding my IBT i have a year and half left on it , if i get a test and fail it do i still have to repeat the ibt after the 2 years are up.

When you get to the centre selection screen click the "more locations" option and a map opens up that you can move around on to find your preferred centre and select it. Be warned, its terrible on mobile/touch screens so best do it on a laptop/desktop PC if possible.

If you're already on a waitlist for Navan ( it will say as much when you select the other centre), click on "view waiting list details" and there is then another link on the new screen that opens to the bottom right where you can change the test centre by going through a couple of screens confirming your details and choosing the new centre.

You'd be forgiven for thinking whoever designed the system was actively trying to discourage you at every step!

As for the IBT, unfortunately yes - once it expires you need to re-do module 5 to get another 2 year cert but that's ages away yet so I wouldn't even be thinking about that! Failing a test has no impact on the current IBT cert.

Thanks, pc desktop saved the day!

another question, my bike’s (ninja 250) vlc shows the power (kw) output. As 5555555kw. 🤣 this is obviously wrong, but am I correct in assuming that the tester on the day would refuse to test me on this bike unless this is rectified ?

He can (& probably will) refuse you as the details are incorrect, its down to the individual tester. You can get the VLC updated/corrected but its a bit of a pain. You will need either the Certificate of Conformity from the manufacturer or a letter on authorised dealer's headed paper with the correct power output and any other categories you want to amend.

Whichever you get plus the VLC has to be sent to Revenue who then instruct Dept of Transport in Shannon to issue a new VLC to you. Best way is through a MyEnquiries on your MyAccount with Revenue. Be prepared as it took 3 rounds for me to finally get the correct info the VLC. Also, this mistake on the VLC is very common whether its laziness or incompetence I can't say.
