Census time capsule. What message would you write?

So it looks like there will be a free-form section where you can write in whatever message you want into the next census and this will be kept secret for 100 years before being made public.

What do you think you would write? You don't want to waste the opportunity on something obvious like repeating about the bigliest President ever. You could use the opportunity to cast shade on someone you don't like - "Jimmy Murphy from Ahascragh is a nonce" etc. - but at the same time do you want to use it up on that person?

I think I might have to go with "Ciúnas bóthar cailín bainne" or "I don't know what a tracker mortgage is".

Maybe "Did Mayo win Sam yet - oh right, yeah I didn't think so, curse is still active"

Or a few Fr. Ted quotes.

I will send my ancestors the keys to a specially reserved amount of my Bitcoin wealth which will be worth loads in 100 years.

I want to ensure my offspring do well in life.

Also you could give directions to a time capsule comprising artefacts from todays modern world (old iPhone, euro notes, an unopened bottle of Whiskey) you could hide this inside the wall of a new build, and give clear directions.

Use it wisely you reprobates your ancestors will be judging you if you draw a penis

Great idea ............ except bear in mind that the census enumerator who is collecting your returns will know that they have 100 years to spend those lovely bitcoins before your descendants realise they are gone.

That sort of thing is meaningless given that our future relatives down the generations will have access to all sorts of material about their ancestors. All we have is paper documents and photos of our ancestors but they will have access to video material too. I just need to make sure I delete the videos of me masturbating before I die. There is a video of me using a fleshlight 8 years ago on xHamster but it doesn't show my face thankfully. I often wonder about those countless PornHub amateur pornstars. Their grandchildren could search in Pornhubs archive in 50 years and see their granny getting spit roasted by Chad and Tyrone.

Well the idea about the time capsule is then that you can write your videos link into that box and then in 100 years your descendants, or else descendants of nosey neighbours, can go and have a look at it 🤣

Great idea, if only to make the boring task of filling out the census forms a bit more interesting.

Can't think of anything to write at the moment, maybe "Never give up", in the hope that it'll be inspirational for some other fiftysomething in 2122.

    That's fair enough.

But to put it into context, you only finally reached reading at the level of an 10 year old there last week. 😋

There is loads more out there for you when you get onto the bigger words.

Guess it is anything goes but is idea to give information about now or what we hope/want it to be like when reader reads.

Not sure if it will be linked to our census information so reader knows some background already e.g family size, jobs, ages ECT

It's a fantastic job for nosey people. I remember the enumerator from the 2016 census gleefully looking at my form when she collected it.

You'd think at this stage that we'd have an option to do it online, it would surely be easy to write software to collate the information too.

I agree..There should be a better way of doing it..I know the person who will be collecting mine.

The collectors are told to check at the door that the various form sections are completed and to offer a last chance to complete if any sections are missed - before they get formally submitted.

Sounds like the government have found a way to let lunatics of different sorts register themselves on a watchlist. That’s convenient.

I know, but she looked delighted. Surely you can check it's complete with a cursory glance and read other's personal details when you're at home and they can't see you? Perfect job for a busybody.

Write a comment in the time capsule. "The person who collected this rode half the village in her youth". You'll know very quick if she is reading more than she is supposed to.

Nah, better to put down "I rode Mary Murphy when she dropped off this census to be filled in"

Gonna be some fun on genealogical research in times ahead with mega-layers of data to curate in your archive. Enough to keep a data centre or two roasting hot.

Very few serious answers here. What I'm planning to write will just be stuff that might interest a genealogical researcher in the future: the places I've lived since the last census and the things I've done as well as linking births, marriages and deaths of relatives and friends to my own record. I might write about our future plans for myself and my family too.

Writing about current events seems like a wasted opportunity - that will be recorded in-depth elsewhere.

I'm going to write about future events instead.

i think its a really great idea - was this done before?

i'm gonna have a think about what to write - but I think it will be something to do with technology.. and how its good when used to our advantage - but bad when not.. and how less is more.. simple = less stress.. etc..
