Part of roof in utility room fell down. Before anyone touches it would anyone be able to tell me what material the roof or plaster is?

It's a 1940s or 50s flat roof utility room and I worry about asbestos but when buying the house surveyor only ever mentioned the shed as a worry for asbestos.

It seems to have a weave to it - like a 6mm hardboard. Any chance it's just that?

Take the loose plaster down until you find an edge perhaps?

Bookbook what is the other side of the roof?

We have a flat roof on an oldish house which is a slab of concrete with felt on top and plaster board directly underneath.

So I guess you have felt (?), then is it boards or concrete? Also are there any lights in that room? If so where does the cable run?

It looks like compressed fibre board. This is old style and was used in sculleries, hallways and so on. If the finish plaster was white lime putty with hairline cracks, that should identify it.

Don’t be wasting your time with it, knock it. Flogging dead horse.

Thanks all. I was worrying it might be asbestos ceiling.

The out side of it - the roof - looks like concrete possibly painted black and covered in moss. Light and wall sockets in room is via an external strip attached to the ceiling and walls.
