Aftermarket keyless entry & keyless start kits

    Hi Folks,

I'm considering getting a keyless kit installed or maybe diy. Has anyone on here had experience getting this done or diying it?

I'm concerned that it would leave the car less secure and that it also might void insurance in the event of break in or theft.

Love to hear thoughts and experience on the topic.

    Cheers.🙏

Keyless entry shouldn't be an issue once you aren't overriding any of the original security features, ie defeating the deadbolts, but keyless start would require defeating the factory immobiliser so will have issues. As with all modifications you'll need to inform your insurer, better to ask before you start as voiding a policy is a big issue for you.

    Thanks Del.

Searching for providers but none are coming up. My search only returns kits for sale.

That car must be very old if there is no keyless entry. Or you mean keyless go? You can not get keyless start so easy. Only reasonable option is to get all system from junk car and program it to your car. That way you do not need to delete immo

    It's a 2013 insignia.

So perhaps a keyless system from say a 2016 scrapped model could be installed?

Actually you're right I mean keyless go.

I want to be able to walk up to the car and open it by hand once I have the key in my pocket then start it with push button.

30 years ago we had keyless entry - nobody did not lock the doors. Sometimes was keyless no go "equipped".

You must make your research what is possible to install with minimum effort, what parts is necessary to remove from junk car and how to program it to your car. Sometimes you may have luck and all wires is on the place, just plug in, program and done. Sometimes you need to make completely new circuits. So, research, research, research. Do not even dream about aftermarket junk.

I made small research, 2009-2017 Insignia IMMO is basically the same system on key programming side (hardware and cables may be different), only IM608 can not program the IMMO parts replacement. Insignia should have 3 IMMO related parts (BCM, ECM and something else was too... IC...). Focus on your research the parts, wiring and programming. Sure you can avoid programming and replace most of the modules from other car, but how happy is NCT about that? There is wrong VIN on other car parts. Not very easy thing to do so, is it really worth it? Buy the same car with factory equipped smart key.

Dont even bother - the modules are programmed by the Vin through the cloud so to speak. If one doesnt play nicely with the others you could have all sorts of problems.

    Not worth the hassle.

Until full IMMO related system is replaced, engine should start and run. Only problem is rest of the car and possible NCT fail. Special Christmas tree edition guaranteed on dash (you do not have enough black magic tape).

From memory the immobiliser is encoded through the dash clocks on the Insignia so youd basically need every module, ecu and Instrument cluster. Along with both keys and ever at that I doubt it would work.

I know exactly there is 3 modules heavily related by IMMO. Take 1 out and you have a problem. I remember once Insignia BCM stays red (pre-programming check) and BCM complained about LIN bus error. Luckily it did not need that bus for IMMO. IMMO is only the first step on the full bucket of possible problems. Like I said, easier is to sell the car and buy factory equipped keyless go.
