How much should I expect to pay for accounting?

Hi, I started my first business. Could anyone advise how much I can expect to pay for accounting services? Is it better to use an accounting agency or a private accountant?

This is a small business sole trader. I just don't want to be overcharged.

It will depend very much on what you want them to do....

    • Some people rock up at the end of the year with a shoebox full of documents and expect the accountant to produce everything up to and including final accounts and tax submissions. In such a case someone has to sit down and go through it, querying the client as they go along.
    • Some will come with the basic bookkeeping done and the accountant extracts the final accounts and does the tax submission
    • A few come with even the final accounts done and just want a review

    Where are you?
