    Hello,

a friend has lost their passport card And is delaying in reporting it as they are going away in a couple of weeks and think they won’t get a replacement in time

I have been trying to explain that it is too important to not report it and that they will have plenty of time for the replacement to be delivered

can someone tell me how long it usually takes to get another?

Isn’t the passport book still okay to use anyway even if the passport card is lost?

Provided it's in date and travel is within the EU.

The book is still fine, no issue there. I renewed my passport a few months ago and got it very quickly. I ordered it on a Sunday evening and I think I had it by Wednesday. The card took a bit longer, arrived a week or so after the book maybe. Not sure if reporting a card as lost will have any effect on how long it takes to get a new one or not though.

Have another thread kind of connected to this, my sisters partners passport is due to expire about 2 weeks after he is due to fly to and return from France. He's Irish & the passport is Irish. What is this passport book? If he goes to renew his passport now would he have things sorted by his trip, its either the 24th or 26th of April they should be flying.

The passport book is a passport. The card, as I explained in your own thread, will only have the same validity as the passport (or 5 years, whichever is shorter).

I also answered your renewal question over there

Should be enough time with a straight forward renewal - no name change, same home address etc
