2011 Qashqai+2 will not pass its next NCT, what are my options?

    Hello

I have 150,000km Nissan Qashqai+2 (2L version) so very low mileage and in really great condition but everything underneath is rusting and pretty much impossible to fix and will never pass a future NCT. I do not know if this is a known issue with these cars but it looks like it was driven on salted roads for years (which obviously has not been) but I suspect it's related to sitting without moving for most of Covid restrictions and very near to the sea.

My question is what can I do with it as I need to replace it before the NCT expires at the end of June? Should I sell for scarp or trade-in as scrap or are there any incentives for scrappage anymore?

    Thank you!

You could NCT it and see what it fails on, sell privately, or trade it in for a new car

How bad is it? Any pics? I doubt it was simply the sea air over Covid that did it!

I live fairly close to the sea and have a 2006 BMW that became our 2nd car at the start of Covid, so in almost 2 years has probably only done about 2,000km, and it recently sailed through its NCT.

Something can look quite rusted, but it could be surface only, and teh important bits could still be structurally sound.

post a few pics op if you can.

Jesus, that looks like it was parked in the sea rather than close to it.

    Ms

Toyota are doing a scrappage scheme on the RAV-4 but it's not much only 1500 still better than nothing do but they are not cheap either the Rav-4.

Something seriously wrong there underneath, as Bazz26 said i wonder has that seen seawater in the past.

For context i have a uk import high mileage 2013 qashqai as the family banger and its got zero rust underneath and i live near the coast.

I bought it in 2013 and it has sailed through all NCTs and I have had it well-taken care but nobody noticed the rust until the most recent service. I found a few posts on some other Nissan forums about rust developing on the subframes after 7/8 years. It's so frustrating as the car is otherwise in perfect condition.

The car without the rust issue is likely worth 6-8k in todays market. My advise here is to take it to a decent car restorer/bodyshop and get a professional recommendation. Ive seen (much older) cars with worse rust than that restored, its by no means a write-off.

It may need welding and replacement parts or it might just be heavy surface rust that needs a good brushing and sealing after.

This is a super common problem with the Qashqais and xtrail etc. The arms, subrame etc fall out of them. Just the arms even are expensive (about 350 before fitting) Sent quite a few to the scrapper in the last few months for the same issue.

cpoh is right get a quote to fix it.

It's worth nothing as it is.

If you can get it fixed and drive on it's worth a lot to you.

I would try and get it fixed. It’s worth scrap metal value as it is
