Psychological thriller super villains?

Most people go for Mike Myers, one of Rob Zombies finest creations.

Respectful mentions to Freddie and Jason.

For me though it's gotta be either Dr Lecter or The Talented Mr Ripley.

Simple reason being Myers, Freddie etc., they were so in-your-face, see them coming a mile off it kind of detracted from the affect.

Dr Lecter and Ripley though, they got under your skin for real - I can't get enough of that shit.

I can't think of any real contemporary noteworthy psychological super villains, the direction horror went, "Final Destination" and that other OTT crap, that super villain style of production seems to have gotten largely overlooked (Human Centipede antagonist doesn't count).

    Thoughts?

I thought Anton Chigurh from 'No Country For Old Men' was a fairly menacing villain.

The Terminator because he's basically a machine that won't stop hunting his target until he kills them. He's pretty much the robot version of Michael Myers. Although I think the T-1000 was more menacing in T-2 but the T-800 from the first movie had a bigger body count.

Yes there's action but Hans Gruber, hands down

Honourable mention to John Doe (aka Kevin Spacey) in Se7en and Tommy DeVito (Joe Pesci) in Goodfellas

    Don Logan

    He had his moments.

In contemporary terms probably one of the better ones but then he was more about just icing fools normally vs psychologically.

Lecter/Ripley were more the mind-fuck type.

I guess you could say Christian Bale in the Machinist but that was a little paradoxical in that he was victimizing himself.

I think Lector is one of the best characters in fiction because of his intelligence/intuition, he's ten steps ahead of everyone else.

Brian Cox's version was believable. The others are magic fantasy characters.

    Castor Troy.

The version in the three novels was actually far superior to either but I figured most people have seen the film, not read the books.

So much depth of character was lost in translation.

That being said yes, the Brian Cox portrayal was far more boss.

Jodie Foster was a horrible choice for the main protagonist alongside Hopkins.

Yeah, you’re right, her Oscar winning performance was terrible.

I thought Cox’s version was a bit more “rough around the edges”, where Hopkins camped it up a bit which I take as him mocking them as he was stringing them along. I really liked Mikkelsen’s version, this was Lector before he was caught and he’s basically Frasier Crane on a trendy new Sapien diet.

What was Lecter's most bad-ass moment?

For me it's gotta be when the agent came to see him in prison at the start.

On her way out that vile trash (Miggs) does..... what he does, then the next morning he's found dead in his cell.

    .......

One of the other inmates describes how he heard Lecter whispering to him throughout the night.

    .......

That's when you know this guy has got insane skills and just no soul what so ever.

Robert Mitchum Cape Fear (Original )

    Robert DevNiro Cape Fear (Remake)

Robert Mitchum - The Night of the Hunter

Mitchum is one mean m-Fcker in both films. I haven’t seen many on screen characters and actors that can portray pure evil as he does.
