Xiaomi Redmi Note 4 not connecting to laptop via USB

    I have gone into Settings - System Settings - Additional Settings - Developer Options and turned on:

    - USB Debugging

    - Select USB configuration - MTP


    So why when I connect the phone via USB to any of the laptop ports does nothing happen? Would it be likely that the cable is sufficient for power only and not data transfer? The cable I am using has the USB trident logo at the USB end.

    Have I got settings wrong or how can I tell if the cable is a USB power or data cable?
