Obdeleven fuel filter prime

    Just wondering if any of you have used the OBDeleven Pro scan tool to prime your fuel filter on

    a VAG tdi?

    I'm getting mixed advice from internet on process and whether it works and would like a steer before I commit and buy one. I just want

    it for this procedure so I can change my own fuel filter.

    Just fill the filter with fresh diesel before installing, cycle key a few times and it be grand. Or jump the contacts on the fuel pump relay if you really want to run the pump. A cheap copy of vcds will do it either.

    Old days it was standard to fill all filters before installation. These days it is not anymore recommended. Reason is simple, if you fill the filter you contaminate the system. This story match the fuel filter elements and canister oil filters, where ever you can pour something in. Sure, nobody does not care and the result is load of junk cars.

    What is wrong, again? 40 years ago the accuracy was way different than these days. Everything is changed. If you do not change and keep using old methods, you are dying dinosaur. I know, most of manufacturers does not push that line but it will standard procedure one day for every manufacturers. Use your brain

    Contaminate it with what? Fresh diesel???? Or Fresh oil in the case of oil filters?

    And you think the new means instantly the clean? Already the filling process happens in open air and any dust particles can ruin your fancy ride.

    This is a DIY forum, not a meeting of meticulous mechanics anonymous. If you want to run your place like a nasa clean room then thats your perogative, the rest of us will make do however we can, which usually means deviation from the approved data and tooling. There is more than one way to skin a cat, of course you know that, but you still make sure everybody knows there is only the approved data way and anything else is unacceptable and results in a 'junk car'.

    Have to say I couldnt agree more. Its completely different diying things than if you have the tools and data of a main dealer at your disposal.

    Who hasnt put a screwdriver through a metal oil filter that was seized on instead of using a "special tool" to remove it. Every single fuel filter Ive ever done has been filled with fresh diesel so I dont have to prime it using a diagnostic tool...none of those ever turned to "junk"

    Ived used drill bits to lock up cams and cranks when doing timing belts. Theres plenty more Ive probably gunthered over the years on my own cars but thats what diy is all about!!!!

    Finding innovative ways to do diy jobs.

    I figured out, why you was fooled - my nickname. If somebody have the internet nickname "King of Ireland" does not mean he/she are the king.

    You do not need to have fancy tool to prime the low pressure side, just cycle the key or force manually the pump running longer time. Have a basic tools to let air out.

    Too sad to see so many fools, who does not understand what damage can make unfiltered fluids.... Keep living inside your bubble and do not ever learn anything new!

    I didn't insinuate you were a mechanic looking for work, I don't know any full time mechs that have time to, or would be bothered, replying to posts on a DIY forum. Not sure what the rest of your post is about so best of luck to the OP, hope he changes his filter without junking his fuel system.

    Hi All


    I used to change the fuel filter in my old 1.9tdi which was easy - fill with diesel and turn key etc... I've read all sorts about priming the

    1.6tdi's and I want to get it right so I bought the OBDeleven scan tool but then found a few different methods being advocated. Nothing

    is straightforward as usual. I'm going to go ahead and use the tool as per one of the videos on youtube but I was hoping somebody who

    used the forum here had used it and could let me know the process etc just for additional peace of mind.

    Just did the fuel filter change there on my 1.6tdi Seat Leon.

    Used transfer fuel pump on OBDeleven Pro after I changed filter (filled cup with diesel etc also).

    Ran it twice just to be sure and it started first time with no problems.

    Essentially paid for itself so all good thanks be to God.

    Changed fuel filter on a 2018 golf Tdi 1.6 115 bhp today as part of service. Can say without doubt that the car started first time without filling the fuel filter housing or activating the pump with the diagnostic tool. Just cycled the ignition 5 times , leaving it ‘on’ for 10 seconds each time.

    Yes - I've seen various people say that works but I wasn't going to "risk" it given there

    are lots of other posters going on about needing to prime etc... Glad it worked well for you.

    Very hard to figure out some of this stuff from internet forums
