Central credit register issue

    Hello,

I had a credit card with avant card formally mbna and in 2011 ran into arrears. I was put into the credit bureau for the debt (2500).

In 2018 I was removed from the credit bureau and had done my time as to say fir the debt. Meanwhile Cabot financial took over the debt. They proceeded to send me letters about the same debt and in 2020 I came to a settlement with them of 1200 euro which I paid.

I am now in the CCR for the original avant card debt but from Cabot financial. So I'm at a stage where done 6/7 years blacklisted on credit bureau and now Im going to have to do 5 years in CCR for same debt but under Cabot. I will be 12 years blacklisted when it's over for the one debt from 2011 surely this can't be right.

Any advice would be much appreciated

For the CCR , it's 5 years from when the debt was settled. The debt was still owed in 2020 so that's why it showed up on CCR. It will be 5 years from when you paid the €1,200.

You can request that an explanatory statement be added to the ccr, which ou can explain it was a credit card from 2011.

I have a similar issue with an MBNA card. They have revoked a card which I owe zero on and have not had a balance on for 8 years. This caused an issue with the CCR for me now though which is a complete joke as my credit history is completely clean. I've never missed a payment on anything and AIB declined a 3000 Loan for a home improvement . I have a mortgage with them for over 2 years and would have a healthy balance in my current account . I called Avant and they closed the account this week. Has anybody any experience of the explanation notes? It's a complete joke of a situation.

Avant only bought MBNA in recent years, so it is not their fault in any way whatsoever.

An error was made. Ask them to amend the ccr details and that should clear it

They bought MBNA eight years ago as it happens - so it may easily fall in to their era.

I've done that today to see if I can get it cleared. Hopefully that's the case.
