Aftermarket Alloys V OEM Original Wheels

My alloys need to be refurbished but it's coming in at the same price to get a nice set of aftermarket alloys, approx €600.

I'm leaning towards the new aftermarket ones.I had heard that they aren't as good quality as the OEM ones and are more prone to cracking.I believe the fact that I have fairly chunky tyres on the car might protect me a bit from this.

I'm thinking I might keep the originals if I ever want to sell the car on.I wonder would having aftermarket alloys on a car effect the value negatively or would people be put off by this?

Finally, are aftermarket alloys a boy racer thing? I'm 43 and not a boy racer!

A lot of questions there but it's really something I know nothing about so any help greatly appreciated.

There are lots of good aftermarket alloys out there but not for 600 euro, anything in that price range is going to be rubbish

I'd be putting money into the originals (and have done so in the past). Just bear in mind that refurbished pain will never stick like the original - in my experience anyway.

    Thanks for that.

One of the reasons I'm considering the aftermarket wheels is that even though they aren't the same quality they are brand new.I really only need them to look good for 2 or 3 years. Also they're arguably nicer than my current ones (or maybe I'm liking the idea of a bit of a change)

With aftermarket alloys you need to be careful as some of them (I know from Audi replicas/aftermarket) crack and buckle so easily compared to OEM.

Lots of oem wheels crack and buckle too, there are exceptions in both cases.

What car? And also consider looking for a set of genuine wheels in good condition with good tyres on Donedeal. I think refurbishment is an awful waste sometimes, especially if your tyres will need changing soon as well.

Just remember "OEM" alloys are made by "after market" alloy wheel companies!

With that in mind shop for quality!

    RCZ,

I'm also looking for some alloys for my transit connect (there's plenty of them 2nd hand) but nothing really for the car.

I've attached pic of the aftermarket ones I'm looking at.

    OP here,

The answer is seems is dont go with the cheap after market. They looked great for a while but aren't looking as good now. The biggest issue though is that there's a slight buckle in a least one of them, possibly two. This was causing a serious shake in the steering wheel.

The buckle(s) was in the front wheels so I switched them to the back and that has sorted it somewhat.

I'm keeping the car for the foreseeable so may get the originals refurbed.

    Glad I kept them!
