Honda Civic 07 Hatchback - Sell or Keep Advice?

    Hope you are doing well.

I got a Honda Civic 07, 1.8 with a tax of nearly 680e every year which is money down the drain. I was planning to keep it for another year or buy a Jazz or Aqua for about 9-10K, with tax at 180e.

    Please advice :

    1. Car had failed NCT last year before the dealer sold to me. Reason was steering CV Joint issue and issue with headlight ( Perhaps not clear). He got those sorted before the sale.
    2. When the car was sold to me last year, tyre had spots around its walls (ripped off). Not sure how it passed NCT. Never mind, during last service I was advice to change front tyres and change brake pads.
    3. Car struggle to go beyond 85 KM/Hr, it does go to 120, but is not swift after 80. Too Much noise and slow acceleration.
    4. I only plan to keep it for 1 year max or trade in with a Honda Jazz Japan Import soon in future. So do not want to spend much money on it.

    Expenses on car.

    1. Tyre size is 205/55R16.

Please advice : What will be the expense for it - New Front Tyres, Brake Pad, AC does not work from day 1, What if CV join is bad again, Wipers.

    Worth spending on 1800e car?

Car is at 140K, Top Model with leather seats etc. Thanks a million.

I had a 1.8 civic, it was so cheap to run over 8 years. Tax is only a small factor.

any car will need maintenance like brakes etc.

spending €10k just to save on gas and get a smaller car doesn’t add up for me.

The lack of power beyond 80kmph is a big deal though. There should be plenty power available. I’d get that issue checked before spending any money on the car.

It does reach 120 but its sluggish acceleration from 80-120.

This 80-90 KM acceleration issue could it be due to bad tyres? NCT is due soon end of this month. You are right.

It was serviced 6 months ago. It gives 6.5 L per 100 KMPH.

Any place where I can get it checked please in Dublin? Thanks

Unless your tyres are under inflated they wouldn't cause much issue in acceleration per se.

Are you using your gears correctly, assuming it's a manual?

6.5l per 100 km is not bad for a 1.8 either.

At the end of the day, only you know the condition of your car. We would only be guessing without seeing it.

Just because it's an '07 model, don't let this put you off too much. :)

Thanks.I guess it was more to using wrong gears. I drove using 5th until.90 and it was great.

Makes too much noise though. Hope exhaust is not gone. Any place I can go and get it checked please and tyre recommendation please.

Finally, if I appear for NCT without a tyre change will they classify it as dangerous? I do notv2anna spend money on tyres and it required 1000e expenses. It's cheap 1700e car.

Those civics are very sensitive to quiet/noisy tyres. Makes a huge difference.

Thanks. I meant exhaust noise, as if driving a sports car

There's always a possibility that it could be a simple hole in the exhaust. You may be able to get it welded without needing to replace it.

At what RPM range is it getting noisy?

Are the tyres worn down to wear indicators and are they over 5 years old?

I’m just saying for when you’re buying tyres, do some research and don’t just buy what the garage wants to sell you.

I'm thinking of going with Bridgestone from fastfit at 100e with fitment included.

Try michelin energy saver or good year efficient grip performance if you can get them.

Thanks,Noise is after 3000 RPM. It crosses 3K at 120 ( Rarely noticed RPM so my best guess). How to check beyond 5 year life? No thread is left on front tyres

If there’s no tread it doesn’t matter how old they are :)
