Nordictrack Issues

I bought a Nordictrack 1750 commercial treadmill in 2018. It worked well, and I had no issues with it for two years.

I had to move the unit to a new location in 2020 and the next time I powered the unit on it flipped a trip-switch as soon as the motor starting moving - and kept doing so. ICON's (Nordictrack's parent brand) local service provider told me, without inspecting the unit, that I would need a new motor and controller. I guess the motor somehow got damaged as part of the move, which obviously isn't Nordictrack's issue.

However, a year and a half later I have been unable to source a new motor for the unit (the controller has always been available) despite repeated attempts. ICON has been no help whatsoever. It has repeatedly promised to update me on the availability of a new unit, but then failed to do so - I have to keep chasing them. It seems the motors in question are rarer than hen's teeth. They eventually told me (after a year) that they had a new shipment of motors coming into the warehouse and would reserve one for me. When I heard nothing more I rang back and was told that they were actually different motors, which should work with my unit, but that they would need to check that with the service department to make sure and would get back to me. They never did. When I chased again, the order was still outstanding on their system but no parts seemed to be allocated to it (suggesting that the motor still was not available). I said that if they are not making the motor any more they should just tell me that. They said they would check that out as a matter of urgency and let me know. Again, nothing.

I have tried to source a second hand motor, to no avail. Specialists have told me that ICON treadmills (Nordictrack, Pro-Form, others) are known for integrating the motor and the controller, and not permitting either to be changed independently, which seems to me to be poor design. The unit does not have a huge amount of mileage on it and it will be a total waste to have to discard it because a single part needs replacing. As above, the fact that the unit broke in the first place is not their issue, but the abysmal customer service is. It should not be this hard to source a replacement part.

I would not buy any piece of fitness equipment from them again. This is just a heads up for anyone looking at purchasing a treadmill or similar in future.
