    Hi All

I upgraded with Siro FTTH via Sky

    Received a new router etc

On most connected devices I have 450-512mbps however on my laptop its averaging at 40-50mbps.

I have checked my driver upgrades and everything is upto date

    Laptop is a top spec Dell with a killer(r) wi-fi 6 ax1650x 200ngw wireless driver.

Have tried changing the router channel from auto but it gets progressively worse.

Looking at the driver advanced properties and changing the wireless mode property again makes things worse

its current value is dual band 802.11 a/b/g

Is there a value I should be using?

there is also other property values but im not entirely sure what to do

Any ideas of what I could do?

    Hi there

    no not running vpn

is there any router settings worth checking ?

I would have thought no, given the phone and other devices are working fine

For testing you can untick the option to synchronise WiF for testing - depends on the router.

This will give you separate options for 2.4 and 5 GHz at the top - change one of the SSID's, this will allow you to choose which band the laptop connects to.

It sounds like the laptop is connecting to 2.4GHz or you are getting really poor 5GHz reception

If the laptop is wifi-6 compatible but the wifi band on the laptop is set to only 802.11 a/b/g then its not on wifi-6 (802.11ax) so you would only see a/b/g throughput speeds on the laptop <=54Mbps max. If possible change to the laptop to ac or ax only on the laptop. If its not picking up the 802.11ax wifi6- network then the issue below outlines a possible reason why if drivers are the issue.

From the Intel support website; "Depending on the Wi-Fi driver version used, Intel® Wireless Adapters supporting 802.11ac may not show Wi-Fi 6 (802.11ax) networks in their scan lists, and as a result, might not be able to connect to Wi-Fi 6 (802.11ax) capable wireless routers and access points, even at 802.11ac speeds." https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/articles/000054799/wireless.html

Word of caution: Before making any changes you would want to do a windows OS restore point and do a complete backup of your system. If its a work laptop 'ask IT to fix this issue for you'. Tinkering with drivers can disable your OS. Make sure the driver updates apply to your machine, model and OS.

The safest option: If you only need a few Mbps on your laptop for what you need to do then just leave it alone and live with the current throughput, do you really need 45Mbps or is it just bugging you its not at the same speed as the rest of the devices.
