fly to uk with no passport?

    hey guys im a irish citizen i was told i can use aer lingus to fly to the uk and back with photo id is this correct?.

    Yes, you can. Only some airlines accept driver's licenses or the like. Ryanair only accepts a passport.

    is it not the other way round?

    All airlines accept bog standard photo ID for irish and british citizens, except Ryanair who go far beyond what is legally required for what is essentially classed as equivalent to a domestic flight and look for a passport.

    If Ryanair had a bus to Newry they'd probably ask for a passport too!! They are the odd ones out.
