Importing Issue

I've been given a chance to buy a late 90's nearly classic car (1997). However, the issue with the car is that it was bought 15 years ago from the North and was left in a garage in the South since. Taken out about 5 - 10 times for short trips to keep the engine ticking over.

How hard will it be to get it VRT'd? The car was insured during this time in case it was stolen etc. Would proof of the insurance be sufficient? V5 is registered to an old UK business owned by this person but that is now gone.

Is the V5 registered to mainland UK or NI?

I think the proof of insurance may be useable as proof the car was used in NI prior to Brexit, if its not you’ll have to pay VAT and customs duty first
