Tank overflow constantly flowing

We have oil fired central heating and an electric immersion. The heating system will also heat up the water in the hot water tank. There is warm water flowing out of the overflow pipe from the tank in our attic. We noticed this last winter (first winter in the house) but it’s progressed from a drip to a weak but steady flow. It stopped altogether in the summer, which I can only guess is because the heating was off. We’ve found that turning off the inflow to the immersion stops the drip but we obviously can’t leave that off all the time. Any idea what the cause could be? We are expecting to renovate and replace the heating system later this year so we don’t want to spend loads on this problem right now, otherwise we’d just call somebody out. Thanks

If warm water is getting into your cold tank, that sounds like you have a leaking coil in the cylinder. You'd be best advised to have that checked out sooner rather than later.

Is your HW scalding hot? Which attic tank is Overflow coming from?

That sounds like it could be it. What is the danger with something like that? I hate wasting energy heating water that goes out the overflow but I don’t want to pay a lot to fix the problem when the whole system is to be replaced soon either.

Not unusually hot I don’t think. I think we only have one tank in the attic. The hot water cylinder is in the hot press.
