Aviva Driving School Lessons

    Hi all,

I am 18 years old based in Kildare. I have recently got my learner permit and want to begin my EDT lessons. The Aviva Driving School bundle for learner drivers (x13 lessons + 6 months insurance as named driver = €499) caught my eye because of how cheap it is.

I have heard very poor reviews in the last year or so- instructors are awful and lessons are backlogged for months. The reviews and personal experiences of others is quite limited online.

Has anyone had any experiences with Aviva Driving School recently? Would I be better off going with a different crowd to do my EDT lessons and become a named driver on my mom's insurance?

    Any advice is appreciated.

3 of my kids went through the Aviva driving school, and they had no problems with the instructors, and they all passed the test first time. I guess you could get a bad instructor anywhere for your EDT's, and its difficult to generalise.

In my view the Aviva scheme offers very good value for money, I think it was about €450 for 6 months as a named driver on my wifes insurance and 12 EDT lessons, but that was a few years ago, so it may be gone up now. But if I remember correctly at the time it would have cost about the same amount with a local private instructor, and an ridiculous price to get them named on the policy as a named driver. It was a no brainer for us, and offered really good value for money and they had no complaints about their driving instructors.

The bundled insurance for Aviva insurance customers with the Aviva lessons is the big bonus. I was getting quotes of thousands to add a rookie learner to the main policy.

If you’re considering other options, make sure you factor insurance costs into your decision.
