Motor tax - grace period when buying new car?

Hi all, I bought a second-hand car today from a dealer in Dublin. The VRC was filled out and posted off today to change the registered owner to me.

Because it's still registered to the dealer that means I cannot pay the motor tax on it yet... I was wondering if there was any kind of grace period when buying a new car that will allow me to drive it while I wait for the VRC to be updated? If I have proof of purchase etc?

    kind of…

Most guards would give you leeway or at least ask you to produce documentation within 14 days. Most would let you in your way.

A traffic warden can issue a ticket for non display though if it’s parked in a public place, and there’s no getting out of that.
