Any advice, data recovery from phone?

I smashed my Samsung screen. Oldish phone so I will buy a new one.

I transferred the SIM to make a few calls, then transferred it back to the broken phone. The broken phone is now locked and inaccessible. I downloaded Samsung Smart Switch to transfer the Apps/data but I can't turn the phone on to access it. I am bewildered - any thoughts?

What do you mean by locked? It became locked because you entered the PIN number wrong multiple times?

No, when you put the SIM back in the phone you need to restart it. I put the SIM back in but I cannot restart it. So it's not really locked, just not turned on.

The phone doesn't boot ? It's not just a broken screen? What model is it exactly?

Samsung A40. I don't know if it boots or not. The screen is broken.

If you try to turn it on, does a computer detect the phone if you connect the two with a USB cable?

The PC sees the phone but will not show any contents until the phone is turned on.

Would you be able to get access to a USB C Hub (like the below), that could allow you to hook up a screen, keyboard and mouse to the phone as well as a memory card to pull everything off it

No, but I just had a thought. I will need to buy a new phone tomorrow anyway so I presume the person in the shop will be able to do this for me?
