I understand that a person can claim tax relief on nursing home costs but can you claim any relief if you don’t pay tax, or ever paid tax in Ireland, Irish citizen, emigrated to UK, returned in 1970’s, housewife / homemaker

    for example

Pensioner, widow, in a nursing home under the ‘fair deal scheme’

monthly income of approximately €1000, €12000pa, split approximately 50/50 between a UK Widows/OAP & a half pension from an Irish company she receives since the death of spouse

Her payment to the nursing home each month is approximately €800, not including charges like social charge & chiropody so her monthly costs are closer to €950

Can she claim any relief on the €800

    Thanks

If you don't have an income tax liability, you can't get tax relief!!!

Well, I was thinking that myself but as she was married for nearly 60 years & her deceased husband would have paid plenty over the years & assuming they were assessed jointly, just thought I’d ask the question anyway
