Kangaroo petrol?

I’m not sure what the technical term is for this but I recently switched from petrol to diesel and switching from first to second gear is a lot different. In the diesel car it struggles in second gear compared to the petrol relative to the same speed. Anyway, I experienced kangaroo petrol and it would not stop even when I shifted to third and fourth. I turned the car off and back on and it persisted for a while but then went away. Have I caused permanent damage to the gear box?

You need to rev higher in first gear before changing up.

I know just taking a bit of getting used to having driven a 1 litre petrol for years but is this bad for the gearbox/clutch?

You won’t have broken the car by just doing that, but there may be another fault causing what you’re describing.

It's like when the car shuffles (kangaroo petrol) the power isn't being transferred from the engine to the front wheels as much as it should be as in it's not accelerating as it does usually.
