Why is there roadworks everywhere lately?

    I'm not sure if it is limited to South Dublin where I live or county wide or indeed nationwide but there is roadworks everywhere lately. Is there a reason behind this? I'm guessing there is some kind of a development scheme in operation that took effect from the new year but would love to know what the reason behind this is. Thanks.
