im living in a building that has guys they call for maintenance.

I don’t like them being in my place when I’m not there and because I work Monday to Friday 8 to 5 that is when they come

i need to replace the mixer valve for the shower. Im more than able to do this myself but I won’t be able to shut if the water.

Does that matter? Will the water go the drain anyway or will it shoot straight out in force?

Very difficult to say. If the building pressurizes the water then it may come out with the force of a fireman's hose. You could end up flooding your place & apartments below.

Not all mixer valves are easy to do. One valve needs to be drilled out. Another valve comes in about 40 pieces. Drop this on the floor & you will have a jigsaw to keep yourself entertained. Then there is the insurance issue to think about.

I'm in the shower repair business. Some people leave a key out. Some get family or neighbor to be there. Some take a half day off work & tie it in with other appointments like the dentist.
