Can I claim health expenses for a parent? One parent has spend hundreds on medical care over the last few months. She is only on pension so cant claim tax back. Myself and siblings contributed. I paid €500 towards one hospital procedure. She has the receipt (in her name). Can I claim it back even though the receipt is in her name? I have a credit card receipt which I know means nothing really.

You can definite claim for a parent if you paid for the medical care.

I would in inclined to claim and explain if they review. Get her to give you the original receipt in her name and keep it with the credit card receipt attached in case you are asked. For adults generally hospitals issue invoices/receipts in the name of the patient, so I imagine this is normal but have not tried to claim in this scenario myself.

Thank you. That’s what I had planned on doing. Just wanted to be sure. Plus if I was ever audited, they could check and see she didn’t claim it herself as well
