Hi my son did his passport online on the 28/01/2022 and it went through took his payment and then we and to print off the consent form and the list of documents to send back plus the postage form all well and good got his passport application number and the tracking number (all well and good or so we thought ) we posted his documents off . Then the next day my wife did hers same process but she received an email afterwards and also was able to see her application online with the application number but when we put our sons application number in it said application dose not exist .has this happened to anyone before as all his documents were posted that day we are very worried now and it’s impossible to get to talk to anyone in the passport office

Read the passport megathread. Loads of issues with children's first passports and very long delays of several months. Adult renewals taking days.

Did your wife have to post anything or was it all online?

Renewed my passport a few years back on line and had it two days later in my hand. there is a lot of articles about long delays for first time passport, this seems to be going on for a few years now, surly they would have a proper procedure that would cut back on the delivery times for first time applicants.

Again this is one for the megathread but Ireland has one of the world's most secure passports. A first time application takes as long as it does due to extra checks.

The passport office tells people not to book travel without having valid passports for all travellers, the bulk of the complaints and panic comes from people who ignored that.

Yes there will always be travel emergencies but the bulk of people on the megathread who're panicking are parents who booked holidays without their kids having passports.

Was your sons passport renewal or first time?

When we did our sons renewal and sent off the documents required by post we were able to see on line when the passport office received the documents via post. We had his passport maybe a week later. Total time 3.5 weeks.

If there has not been any update stating they have received the docs then maybe they have not in which case the application is not being processed.
