Why did boards use such an old fashioned platform for the upgrade?

Having a platform that's not fully functional on mobile devices is madness. It's the same thing that digital spy uk uses and it's grand for them because their user base has always come across as being 10/15 years older than the average boards user.

There's a massive thread over on Feedback (several actually) on this topic but in summary...

    • "Old Boards" was supposedly a money pit and a pain to support. As the staff tell it, the site was potentially not far from permanent closure. This presumably was far cheaper but as you say, not really suited for the usage model that Boards is/was
    • They hugely underestimated the amount of effort that would be involved in making Vanilla even semi-usable when compared to the old platform
    • They're under-resourced in terms of technical staff who can address the issues, not helped by the very unfortunate death of one of the key guys recently 😟 They're also reliant on the vendor in Canada to implement changes for them
    • The "disconnect" between the owners of Boards and the community (which has been an issue for years and laid bare with this upgrade) meant that they don't really understand why people still come here in a world of alternatives
    • But mostly it was cheap!
