    Hi all,

Recently my cat has started to have pretty bad dandruff. She also has a UTI right now so has just been put on antibiotics. The vet said that the time of the year can make any dandruff worse. That and a general reduction in water consumption in winter. She thought it could be the diet, perhaps food low in oil but she wasn't overly convinced. She was given a spot on treatment just in case its flea dander.

She is nearly a year old and I have never noticed dandruff until recently. The only change I can think of is that I moved from a very-expensive food to very cheap food. She was eating Carnilove dry cat food and now has almost finished a 2kg bag of Aldi Complete dry. Going by the manufacturing code, this is a Red Mills food. I'm sure people will say how cheap food is terrible but I generally do follow this as these foods are highly regulated and provide all the macros the cat needs. In saying that, I think I can splurge for something with more meat/fat as this is 1 euro a kilo!

Original food for a few months: https://www.purina.co.uk/cat/cat-food/product-purina-one-dry-kitten-chicken

    Expensive food after: https://www.carnilove.co.uk/product/carnilove-salmon-turkey-kitten-food/

    Current food: https://groceries.aldi.ie/en-GB/ALDIIE/p-complete-cat-food-2kg-vitacat/4088600003078

Has anyone ever had experiences with a cat with dandruff? Any reasonable dry food recommendations would be great.

    Thanks.

Reverse the change and spend your cash on the cat's food and not the vet's bills.

My dog had a problem with skin allergies. He had painkillers and antibiotics and the vet wanted to start a course of injections at €60 a pop. His food at the time was mostly supermarket own brand stuff. I suspected that the problem was food related and decided to change his diet and buy all his food from Zooplus and I can say that he is now happier and healthier than ever.

Don't forget the omega 3 supplement - it will make a big difference to the dandruffy skin.
