Fitting parking sensors Corolla

    Greetings

I recently purchased a 2020 Toyota Corolla Luna Sport Hybrid. (Right, that's the bragging out of the way).

Anyway, MrsN is disappointed that it didn't come with the parking sensors. On the Toyota web site it says TPS 800 can be fitted giving front and back sensors. I would expect this is the very same as the factory fitted ones and as such will be integrated into the controls, so that appropriate information and control is available on the dash.

Can anyone here confirm that? Also, anyone know the likely cost of this?

    cheers.

Exactly yes, this is the advantage of going with an (admittedly more expensive) OEM solution, versus an aftermarket option that may not integrate quite so well. Linking into the car's ECU and activating the front sensors when driving in traffic is a nice feature too.

Looks to be the TPA 800.

I have the 2019 version on the same car. Reverse camera great but was surprised audible parking sensors weren't standard. Especially given the proximity warning works very well. Kinda got used to it no though as the nose is very short in fairness.

Thanks for taking the trouble to comment, folks.

I've emailed the salesman to ask about getting the TPA 800 (thanks for the correction, k! ) so when I get a quote, I'll post it here and we can all have a good cry. Then I'll shop around a bit. I hate spending money, but in the end, I might decide that the integration is more important than copycat parts for less.

Even the 2022 models have the camera but no parking sensors.

Its kind of surprising alright that they're not standard. Never having had a rear view camera before, and I know it sounds silly - but I don't trust it. The car owners manual isn't the best I've ever seen 🙄 so there's lots I haven't figured out yet. I guess the red box on the screen means "you're close enough!" I might actually put a cone behind it and see what a collision looks like on the camera. So far, I've mainly used the mirrors, with the odd glance at the screen. In fairness, I only got it on Wednesday!!

UPDATE: Well, it seems I cannot get aftermarket genuine sensors fitted. Two main dealers offered non Toyota sensors. One set is triggered when reverse is selected. Audible warning only. So suggests ebay sensors powered from the reverse lights. Another offered front sensors with an on/off switch. Apparently when my reg is entered, Toyota does not list TPA800 as an option. (or TPA400, for that matter). €320 for rear only or €530 +VAT for front and rear.

Anyway, I've written to Toyota Ireland to query this. Mrs N is unsurprised that I went to a forecourt and was beguiled by shiny metallic paint and chrome and a reversing camera, and forgetting to ask if sensors were provided.

I have the Luna sport also and when I queried sensors with the salesman he said rear ones could be fitted but not to bother with front ones unless factory fitted as they never work right. I see now that they are an extra option when ordering a Luna sport, they weren't when I ordered my car.

I am not sure about Toyota sensors but I drove a 2016vw with front rear and side sensors and they worked well mapping all 360 degrees as car moved around but there was a 1-2 second delay on updating distance. Luckily car has reversing camera but for tight parking you cannot trust the distance shown unless you drive really really slow. I tend to ignore the beeps as with 360 sensors it's constantly beeping in the driveway from nearby pillars, bushes etc. The only time I find it handy is front sensor due to no front camera when parallel parking. It really is not that useful when you get used to the camera.
