We're currently building a large extension to a small property. Windows going in next week. Spoke with architect about seai grants, discussed when pricing originally and the builder said he would sort then out as the supplier does it on his behalf and he claims it at source and passes savings on to us. Spoke to seai today…

Spoke to seai today who advised me we need to apply before any works have commenced

I've been told I could get it retrospectively.

Does anyone have experience of this ?

Grants only available for existing part of the house and must be applied for by yourself before any works commence. All the criteria are available on the SEAI website so don't listen to your builder on this one as by the sounds of it is not registered with SEAI.
