How far into pregnancy would you tell if a heifer is in calf via handling. Have a heifer that is calved almost 4 months and no sign of heat.

So it’s either silent heat and missing it or a small weanling bull did her just before he was squeezed at before xmas

A scanner may tell from 3-4 weeks. A vet, by handling, from about 6 weeks. Although I know some farmers check animals in late pregnancy themselves, it's not something I routinely recommend. A farmer who does AI would have a fair idea of how delicate the rectum is and how much it can be 'worked'; others may find out the hard way.
