Cleaning Water tank

The water tanks in the building where I live are getting cleaned (meaning disruption to the water) and as is typical of my luck it is going to happen on a day when I have a job interview and will need a shower after work.

what is involved in the cleaning ? Is there chemicals? Is it safe to have a shower when they are finished or should I turn on the shower and let the water flow for a while before I use it?
