Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Interior wall - Paint bubbles :/

    Hi All,

Hoping someone here can provide me with some help.

I bought a house about 10years ago, had a bit of work completed in it which included some of the walls being skimmed/re-plastered. These newly skimmed walls are a joy to paint, you can throw any paint at it, walk away and it's perfect.

The original walls however are not so easy. From cheap paint to the more expensive and better quality Dulux Moda paint, anything I put on these walls bubbles while drying and never really recovers. Some of the bubbles do reduce over time but they are far from perfect, Picture below is one wall as it is now, 5 or 6 years on.

Speaking to various people over the years, most say it must be moisture or dust, the walls are definitely not damp or dusty - surely if it was either of these issues, I would see the same on the newly skimmed walls?

Anyway, I am planning on repainting a few rooms over the next couple of months and wanted to see if anyone could advise on how to avoid the same issue again?

Currently thinking of the following steps:

    1. Light sand to remove current bubbles
    2. Good quality primer (open to suggestions here, was looking at Zinsser Bulls Eye 1-2-3 Primer Sealer)
    3. Good quality paint

Any other recommendations or pointers are greatly appreciated.

    Derek

If it was me, I'd prep by scraping off the bubbles, fill the craters with filler, light sand down then line the walls with fibre liner before repainting.

I use the meter wide rolls lots, it's easy to hang (paste the wall) and mighty stuff that leaves the walls looking like they've been newly skimmed.

I would scrape off the bubbles and do a light sanding but also I would moisture test the walls - there could be moisture getting in from somewhere causing the bubbles.

I've used Colourtrend Primer Sealer Undercoat, Prime 4 - and its great stuff but they will also give you advice if the right thing to use. Best quality paint aswell.
