Trapdoor/Door Options Here?

How would you go about sealing off this open staircase into an attic bedroom with some kind of trapdoor or door do you think and would it be a big job (or even doable)? Making a little room or porch in the corner of the room would be undesireable as it would eat into a lot of the rooms area due to the slope of the roof etc.
