    Hello everyone

To cut a long story short

I Bought a Suzuki Grand Vitara from a car breaker, he said he will send the logbook to me when he contacts the original owner. He messed me around for a month, I went to my local tax office and they told me the car was marked as scrapped.

They gave me a form to fill out and said it's up to the people in Shannon whether it can be registered again or not.

Basically, has anyone been able to register a deregistered vehicle before?

    Thanks

    John

Do you know what the general condition of it is, if it was a write off insurance companies may not give a quote on it ever. Chicken and egg situation now for you as they likely will not quote with it being declared scrapped.

I would have thought once a vehicle is marked as scrapped, that’s it.

You would have to try to get it newly registered, with a new number, and all the grief that would ensue.

Sorry I should of added that the vehicle sat at a mechanics yard for 3 years. The problem was an immobilizer issue that they could not fix. So the car was not crashed or anything

If the car was designated as scrapped by the Department of Transport in Shannon then that usually means the car would never go back on the road again and is either broken for parts or destroyed. You need to talk to them and see if it can actually be reregistered again. I'd imagine it would need to be assessed and signed off by an engineer as being road worthy. Then you have the trouble with trying to insure it as it well be recorded on their records as scrapped also. Might not be so easy to get them to remove that.

I think you were sold a pup. If a scrap dealer told me the sun was shining I'd have to look up to be sure.

Thanks for the reply, I will fill out the form I was given and try it anyways. I don't have much to loose anyways.

I will update on this when I know more
