I am travelling abroad via Etihad next week and have bought a "Outdoor LED Solar Lamp with Motion Sensor" from AliExpress.

Would I be able to carry it in my cabin baggage or would airport search unit bin it? Any advice welcome.

    why would they bin it?

Theres restrictions on liquids, foods, drugs, weapons, large batteries etc. which are an obvious hazzard to the flight or the destination country or just illegal.

That seems to be a random bit of electronics so what would make it an issue ?

Possibly take the batteries out and have in cabin bag, but don't see there being any issue otherwise.
