I imagine the Department of Health does support the methods on the show.

Every word that came out of the bed wetter mouths of the right to be fat brigade concerning OT this week, was bulldust.

OT does not promote diet culture, it promotes ways to reduce the chronic and endemic public health problems we have in the Country that include obesity, and the consequent problems of diabetes, hypertension, heart disease, musculo-skeletal damage, stroke, dementia, liver failure, ulcers, cancers and premature death.

If you are fat and inactive, you will die younger and unhealthier. You will disproportionately burden the health service with your avoidable health issues.

The Department of Health has its own units trying to do exactly the same thing for individuals as OT tries to do for hundreds of thousands, so I imagine the objectives are very much aligned.

And so while OT is structured as an entertainment show, it's done so in a way to appeal to people to be inspired by its messaging, to plan meals, to cook at home, to reduce sugar and bad fats in the diet (particularly in kids) and to exercise even at a minimum level.

Any w@nker who came out this week to try and stop that messaging is just looking for mommy to tell him or her that it's just grand to be a sedentary blob. And you know what kids? It isn't. Get over it.

€230K for 8 shows , that will be repeated on +1 and the weekend and in a few months time and late at night and on the player.

It's cheaper than taking 30 ads at each ad break during one run of the program.
