Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

2-3 night ski weekend Options

I hate missing out on the annual short 'lads' ski holiday but I just don't think this year is the year for it. Normally around 10 of us go to Mayrhofen/Soll/Solden/ etc. for 4 nights. Austria is great. We have been to Italy and Andorra and it has not been as good.

Any suggestions on a 3 night break to a resort that is a close commute to a resort. Ideally with flights Thursday to Sunday etc. night life isn't a worry this year. More concerned with comfort and access (getting old) and I'll probably only ask my brother or 2 others if they want to go.

Fly to Munich, head to Garmisch-Partenkirchen. Trains run every hour, they seem to cost about €25 one way. Or pals of mine did it and hired a car.

Try Ryanair to Milan Bergamo. It’s just over two hours to Champoluc which is a brilliant resort with great skiing. Very cheap and excellent food too. Early out and late back.

Otherwise it’s hard to beat the Aerlingus flight to Geneva which is another early flight. Two hours to the 3 Valleys.

Shorter transfer is Morzine which is only just over and hour.

No idea why my posts are double?

Geneva is a good starting point, or Zurich. A couple of places on the train open to you.

Ryanair and Aer Lingus both serve Treviso and Venice, short hop to the Dolomites from there. Cortina, Val Gardena etc. along with plenty of smaller resorts.

Verona gives good access to Madonna di Campiglio and plenty of smaller resorts too.

I did a loooooong thread on this a year or two ago

Not sure if its still up to date, you'd have to take a week off work to read it

Two things I would add - flight schedules have decreased since Covid so some of the options are a little less well served

Also I would add both the Pyrenees (ex Barcelona / Toulouse / Girona / Lourdes) and maybe Sierra Nevada (Ex Malaga) to the list

I've been to Aprica and Month Campione (3 times) Flying into Milan Bergamo, but it's very dodgy for skiing in March for coverage. But it was nice and very reasonable.

FYI activitybreaks.com were/are great at stort CHEAP ski breaks if you can align a flight to it.

I thought there would be more France options tbh but Geneva seems like the closest airport.

Champoluc and the connecting resorts, Gressoney and Alagna have a very good snow record and tend to be open into April.

Geneva is the best option as while there are flights to Grenoble with Ryanair they only fly on a Saturday. Lyon is another option but the flight times aren’t great for a short trip.

Why not do Mayrhofen/Soll again? I've been to Soll four times, Mayrhofen twice. I like the comfort of knowing what you're getting, picking a new resort is fun but there is also some risk of disappointment. St Anton is a great spot but might be more of a nightlife place rather than accessibility.

Flights to Munich and the train are how we usually do it. Just need to keep an eye for deals.

Sorry to hijack your thread, but in a similar position of looking at booking a short break later in the season but just unsure if its better waiting anither year. Can anyone who has been in Austria recently report on how the covid restrictions effect the experience on the slopes and back in resort. Presume bars and apres is a lot quieter or even non existant.

FB group I follow for Soll they said bars are shut by 10 by on the whole things are ok. They are very strictly checking covid certs in bars and restaurants.

On lifts apparently you need a mask if there is more than 1 person.

Thanks, can deal with certs and masks, just once there is a half decent vibe in the resorts. I should have posted in the other Austria thread but hadn't seen it at the time.

Usually head to Söll with a group of lads. Had ischgl booked for next week, with flights to memmingen. Ryanair changed the flight from Wednesday to Friday, and we were due to come back on Sunday so needless to say we cancelled! Flying to Geneva in 3 weeks now and going to try out le grand massif area, staying in Les Carroz. Hoping all goes well! Had tried morzine and les gets but couldn't get accomodation at all! Can't beat a 1 hour transfer tho 😄
