Can schools just decide to change operating hours?

My little lad's school just set a "reminder" that they're starting/finishing 15 minutes earlier, from tomorrow.

Say reminder as I never got the notification in the first place and, going by the group chat, I'm not the only one.

Apparently the teachers held a vote and decided this.

May seem like a small change but it puts us under real pressure at both ends of the school day.

How can they impose this on kids already enrolled in the school?

We had something similar happen with a new principal . Changed the start time with no consultation with the school community. We had a meeting with the parents association and brought it to the attention of the principal and board of management. It was brought back to the original time pretty quickly. Technically the school bus was going to land 25 minutes after the start of the school day. There would be a loss of schooldays so was unacceptable

We changed times due to staggered start/end of the school day, but it was discussed with parents’ committee , BOM and staff , but yes , they can do it, but best to do it by consensus.

Our primary school changed start time a few years ago, and the secondary school has changed start time twice in 3 years.

Yes it is something they can do. They can consult with parents, but it may just be a FYI. It's unusual to do it in the middle of the school year, but likelihood is if it doesn't go ahead this year, it will be implemented in September anyway.
