    Happy New Year everyone!

I'm hoping someone can help me please? I would like to become a secondary school teacher and one of my subjects would be French.

I see in the subject declaration form for French that I am required to show B2.2 CEFR accreditation in French. I have an honours BA - I achieved a grade of 58% in my final French exam...can you tell me what is the grade required for a B2.2 CEFR level in French?

Also, in the subject declaration form it says "Alternatively, applicants can provide certification of successful completion of an independent language competency test" - would anyone know what other competency tests would be accepted instead please?

I would really appreciate any help or advice you could give me please? Thanks for reading this.

Your degree qualification should be sufficient, I'd imagine, and if necessary you could get a letter from the department confirming so. In fact, many Hons BA graduates have nowhere near that level, but the awarding institutions will happily claim that they do (source: been lecturing in French for 30 years).

If you do want or need to take an independent evaluation, look into providers in your area that prepare you for the DELF/DALF exams - your nearest Alliance Française will be able to help - I'm on the phone so can't post links, sorry. Do you meet all the TC requirements otherwise? (e.g. re time spent in France).

Thanks very much Peckerhead...I appreciate you taking the time to reply. I have emailed Alliance Francaise, the French department and the Teaching Council so hopefully I'll get a reply with the information I need to get the required B2.2 CEFR accreditation.

Yes, I meet all the other Teaching Council requirements otherwise.

    Thanks again for your help.

If your university documentation isn't sufficient, you will need a DELF B2 (DALF is more advanced so only for C1/C2). Alliance Francaise will help you arranging the exam (I did one in Limerick many years ago), but you can prepare for it yourself online (e.g. iTalki for conversation classes, or many sites for reading/listening https://www.francepodcasts.com/examens-de-francais/delf-b2-examen/ ). Bonne chance !
