I have typed every search option I could think of and nothing seems to come up re the above. But I might be missing something.

Hope you can help, it is for a senior relative with the bus pass, taking the train to Athlone for a few days break in March and wants to see the monastic site via public transport.

Many thanks if you can assist.

I don't think there is a bus service but this is the best way to visit Clonmacnoise starting in Athlone with a 90 minute boat trip.

On arrival at Clonmacnoise you get 90 minutes to visit the monastic site and then a private bus takes you back to Athlone.

    Details here - https://www.vikingtoursireland.ie/public-sailings/clonmacnoise-cruise/

The only catch is that they don't start until April 9th but I thought I'd let you know in case plans change.

Thank you. He (relative) had seen info about the boat trip alright, but is wary of boats, don't ask!, so was wondering about other ways of getting there.

I wouldn't mind doing that trip on the boat myself, sounds great. One for the staycation list!
