UK freeview channels issue

    Happy Christmas everyone.

Searched around for a while and couldn't find anything to answer my question and didn't want to resurrect any zombie threads.

Apologies if this is already covered somewhere and my search mojo failed me.

I'm living in East Meath until a month or two ago I was getting UK freeview stations on my TV. I'm a little south of Drogheda on the coast, have an antenna on the roof and an amp in the attic, just the one TV in the house.

On occasion I'd lose the channels and I'd just retune, was assuming to do with freq changes but as its UK I didn't go digging as it retuned fine.

Now they're just gone, no retuning gets them back.

They were always clear as a bell, and ironically during weather events I'd get pixellation on the Saorview channels far more than on the UK channels.

Not sure have they switched off transmitter or changed something thats caused me to be unable to tune to them now.

Anyone shed any light on this? Anyone else with the same issue? Or is it simply one of the storms has shifted the antenna off alignment and I need someone to go up and realign.

I'd ask neighbours but they all have too much money and have Sky, none use Saorview or Freeview.

Thanks in advance for any input

    BB

Nothing has changed at the transmitters, & a fault wouldn't be left for that length of time, so it must be something at your own end.

    Saorview mustn't be affected?

    Thanks for the response Elvis.

No impact on Saorview. Nothing changed on my side anywhere, only possibility I think could be the aeriel getting twisted off alignment in one of the storms, but expected I'd tune but with poor signal strength.

I know there was a 5G thing with frequencies on Freeview, but IIRC that was to kick in end of 2020 and this didn't seem to impact my channels.

I had noticed when scanning Richer Sounds recently, dreaming about buying a bigger newer and possibly 8K model - stupid I know - I noted they listed the all TV's now as not having Freeview available in the ROI. Wondering now if due to Brexit they've added something in Firmware to block Freeview channel tuning on any TV set to Ireland or with an ROI IP address. Didn't notice the outage coinciding with a s/w update though.

    Any thoughts?

I might disconnect from the net and reset the settings to UK and see does it change anything.

    Thank again

Richer Sounds just mentions that as Freeview isn't officially available yet the logos would often be plastered on the TV boxes. A lucky few, including you, get it via overspill from NI or Wales.

Brexit or IP address won't be to blame, it must be your aerial.

Is there a possibility that you have a masthead amplifier out near the aerial? The amp in the attic might actually be a power unit for powering the masthead amplifier. If you have an amp, it could have died.
